A visit to Clumpies NorthShore is a Chattanooga tradition for locals and tourists alike. A popular spot for hangouts, family outings and downtown date nights, Clumpies’ first ice cream shop has been making memories for 25 years. Here’s why Clumpies NorthShore is on everyone’s Chattanooga bucket list. Let’s get our bearings: Clumpies is located just north of downtown on Chattanooga’s NorthShore, a hilly neighborhood populated by low rise apartments and chic bungalows. Clumpies entered the scene in 1999 along with the opening of Coolidge Park, and the two have been synonymous with each other ever since. Our flagship shop features 18 of Clumpies’ classic flavors, such as Firecracker, Espresso Chocolate Chunk and Butter Pecan, and summer flavors including Birthday Cake, Raspberry Lemonade Sorbet, Parent Trap and more! “My favorite part about working at NorthShore is the atmosphere and the people here,” said Clumpies partner (employee) Grace Burnette-Vice. “It just makes it more fun to come to work every day.” Grace says banana pudding and firecracker are her favorite to scoop. You’re welcome to taste both before ordering! Clumpies NorthShore is spacious with plenty of seating inside and features an outdoor covered patio that overlooks Coolidge Park. Grab a scoop and head to the park for some of the best views in all of Chattanooga. The shop also sells our exclusive Clumpies merchandise including shirts, hats, mugs and stickers. Parking is available on Frazier Avenue and at Coolidge Park. But being so close to the Walnut Street (walking) Bridge, you can get to Clumpies easily from anywhere in downtown. Park in the Art District or at the Tennessee Aquarium and enjoy a lovely evening stroll across the beloved Walking Bridge to Chattanooga’s favorite ice cream shop. Clumpies wins the gold for going green
The Greater Chattanooga Hospitality Association has honored Clumpies Ice Cream Co. with the STARS of the Industry Greener Tennessee Award for its innovative recycling and composting efforts. Ashley Bottoms, senior manager at Clumpies, accepted the award at a GCHA luncheon on June 20 at the Westin Chattanooga alongside two Rock City partners for hospitality excellence. Bottoms spearheaded Clumpies’ composting program, which turns hard-to-recycle personal protective equipment, such as gloves, into pellets that are used to create consumer products like patio furniture, flowerpots, planters and recycling bins. This process began in January 2023 at its commercial kitchen but is now utilized in all of our shops in addition to our food truck. You’re invited to take part in the action! Since April, each Clumpies location houses receptacles for composting and recycling, giving food scraps a new, greener purpose.
